Shanet was really helpful and kind in working through some of the behavior patterns and past I wanted to unearth. Highly recommend.

More about me
Licensing: MS, LMFT Years in Practice: 5 State: New York
My name is Shanet Dennis and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of New York. I earned my BA in Psychology at Chapman/Brandman University, and later completed an MS in Marriage and Family Counseling Therapy at Capella University. My interest in the field came from a desire to fill a gap that seemed to be present in my own life. Having had experiences where I felt I needed an unbiased sounding board to help navigate the rough patches, I set a path that will allow me to be the change I wanted to see.
Over the past four years I have worked with individuals of all ages with varying levels of relationship concerns, depression, anxiety, PTSD, and other severe mental health disorders. Therapy models that I tend to work from include Narrative Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy and Emotion Focused Therapy. I often integrate Mindfulness Therapy techniques into the approach that I am actively practicing. I have also used Cognitive Behavioral and Strategic Therapies.
The mantra and/or general philosophy that I base my practice on is “building healthy relationships one story at a time.” This includes the relationship with oneself. There is no one fits all solution to a problem, or one way of getting to a place of feeling well. With that in mind, my goal is to listen to your story, learn, validate, and advocate on your behalf—in a way that is tailored specifically for you. The goal overall is to do it together.
I’d be honored to assist you in navigating through the rough patches as well.
About online counseling
Online counseling allows you to receive care from an online mental health practitioner via phone, video chat, or instant messaging. It is convenient for those who may have trouble getting to or would prefer not to have in-person therapy appointments. Starting at $65 per week, online counseling is generally more affordable than in-person counseling. A study by researchers at University of California, Berkeley found that online counseling can be just as effective as face-to-face therapy while being more convenient, affordable, and accessible.
