Hi, I'm Eleanor Woollard, Licensed Professional Counselor, a therapist with 30 years of experience in dealing with multiple issues including but not limited to depression, anxiety, personality disorders, addictions, eating disorders, relational issues, dissociative disorders, trauma, and family problems. I have developed codependency treatment programs for two hospitals in Atlanta, as well as directed two large substance abuse treatment programs. Additionally, I have lectured regionally and nationally on many psychological topics (depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, codependency, unresolved family of origin issues) designed to educate the public about emotional and mental wellness, and how to create a more fulfilling life. I was quoted in Newsweek Magazine as an expert on the effect of alcoholism on the family. Additionally, I developed a grass roots program helping parents understand the impact of divorce on children and how to make the child more comfortable in the midst of divorce.
I have practiced individual therapy in private practice for the past 30 years, and am always honored when someone allows me to understand their inner world. I always tell clients that coming to counseling is like going to an auto mechanic or a surgeon. While, obviously, working with your inner states is not as mechanical as working on a car or operating on a body, it is similar in that most people are needing some kind of "adjustment" emotionally and mentally. Counseling strategies help you unblock things which are causing you pain or other distress, and help you "run" better - or as one of my clients said "Now I'm hitting on all cylinders."
As a therapist, most important when we meet would be determining if we are a good "fit"....because counseling should feel safe and caring. If you are comfortable with me, then together we will create a plan which defines what your inner and outer goals are for counseling and explore how to get there. For some, just feeling less sad is a goal, and for others, having direction in how to feel more intentional in their life about finances or career is a goal. You can have many goals in counseling, and my task is to help you become more clear about steps to take to address your situation, and if you feel blocked, to discern the origin of the blockage and the most effective way to dissolve the perceived block.
While not my current primary focus in private practice, I have extensive experience with 12 step recovery programs, and have also studied transpersonal psychology. What all of that means is that I am very comfortable helping you integrate your spiritual, philosophical or religious orientations into your counseling, if you wish.
I look forward to meeting you.
About online counseling
Online counseling allows you to receive care from an online mental health practitioner via phone, video chat, or instant messaging. It is convenient for those who may have trouble getting to or would prefer not to have in-person therapy appointments. Ranging from $60 to $90 per week, online counseling is generally more affordable than in-person counseling. A study by researchers at University of California, Berkeley found that online counseling can be just as effective as face-to-face therapy while being more convenient, affordable, and accessible.
