Welcome to Better Help! If you are experiencing intense anxiety, relationship issues, depression, and/or just feeling stuck, change is possible. I believe that the relationship between client and therapist opens pathways to healing and clients can discover the truth of their own inner strength and resources. I would like to help you on your journey to explore, learn, and encourage movement towards greater self-awareness, deeper peace, and achieve more meaning and joy from relationships. To achieve these goals, I believe that a customized approach in therapy is most effective in helping people make positive changes in their lives.
My approach includes cognitive-behavioral therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), sensorimotor psychotherapy, and brain science therapies to include neurofeedback/biofeedback. My specialty is working with anxiety disorders to include panic attacks, PTSD, OCD, and generalized anxiety. My experience as a martial arts instructor over 30 years has taught me the importance of meditation and the mind-body connection.
I have over 25 years experience as a psychotherapist, and a graduate of Virginia Tech. I maintained a private practice in the Washington DC area for 18 years, and currently have a practice in Charlottesville, Virginia for the past 8 years. I have previously worked in many settings prior to private practice, to include working for the federal government, a dual diagnostic treatment facility, a high school counselor, and a part-time counselor at UVA.
With compassion and understanding, I work with each individual to help build on your strengths and attain the personal growth you are committed to accomplishing. I look forward to working with you!
About online counseling
Online counseling allows you to receive care from an online mental health practitioner via phone, video chat, or instant messaging. It is convenient for those who may have trouble getting to or would prefer not to have in-person therapy appointments. Ranging from $60 to $90 per week, online counseling is generally more affordable than in-person counseling. A study by researchers at University of California, Berkeley found that online counseling can be just as effective as face-to-face therapy while being more convenient, affordable, and accessible.
