More about me
My name is Shavon Pannell, and I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia with a National Counselor Certification through the National Board of Certified Counselors. I have 18 years of experience working children, adolescents, and adults experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, ADHD, grief and loss, anger-management, oppositional behaviors, conflict-resolution, and life transition challenges.
My counseling style is warm, empathetic, and I'm an active listener. I believe we all are innately capable of overcoming life's challenges and I'm here to help you along the way. My counseling modalities include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Mindfulness. Depending on concerns presented, I will tailor our sessions to meet your specific needs.
Counseling and psychotherapy can have both risks and benefits. The counseling process may include discussions of your personal challenges and difficulties which can elicit uncomfortable feelings such as sadness, guilt, anger, and frustration. However, counseling has also been shown to have benefits. It can often lead to better interpersonal relationships, improved academic performance, solutions to specific problems, and reductions in your feelings of distress, but there is no assurance of these benefits. It takes a lot of courage to seek help during life's most challenging times, and if you're willing to take the first step, I'm here to support you!
I look forward to working with you soon!
About online counseling
Online counseling allows you to receive care from an online mental health practitioner via phone, video chat, or instant messaging. It is convenient for those who may have trouble getting to or would prefer not to have in-person therapy appointments. Ranging from $35 to $80 per week, online counseling is generally more affordable than in-person counseling. A study by researchers at University of California, Berkeley found that online counseling can be just as effective as face-to-face therapy while being more convenient, affordable, and accessible.
