More about Katherine

  • 15 years' experience
  • Female
  • LMHC

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Iowa with over 10 years of experience working with individuals and families. I have worked with individuals with a wide variety of concerns including trauma (abuse, neglect, domestic violence, first responders, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder criteria, emotional abuse, grief and loss, abandonment, etc.), depression, anxiety, relationship issues, family of origin issues, emptiness, invisibility, LGBTQ+, and many many more.

I am an Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapist and I utilize other methods in including solution-focused, strength-based, relaxation/stress management, and many others. No two clients are the same, so I do not believe in a "one size fits all" approach.

I believe each person has potential for growth and healing, but each of us has encountered barriers to achieving our greatest potential through internal or external experiences. It can be very difficult to recognize those barriers and address them, and it can be very helpful to have a therapist partner accompany you on the healing journey. I like to illustrate therapy using the metaphor of bowling: my client is the bowler and has the power to choose the direction they throw the ball, the ball they select, and the power they use to throw the ball down the lane. I, as the therapist, am the bumpers - I respect my client's decisions in how they throw the ball, I guide us down the lane and keep us from going in the gutter :)

The most frequent feedback I get from my colleagues and clients is that I am "real." That is, I do not pretend to be perfect and I do not expect perfection. I also am very honest because that is what I ask of my clients.

I look forward to working with you and getting to know you better!

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.

Katie has been so open about taking the time to allow me to open up, when it comes to topics that I find hard to discuss. Letting me decide that I'm ready to start talking about it, and okay if I want to stop if it becomes too painful to continue.

Reviewed November 2022

Katie has helped me in so many ways. She clearly listens to me and understands what my goals are in going to therapy. Every session with her has been productive and effective. I took a break from therapy, and even after months away she still had a very good read on me and remembered things discussed many months ago. She’s very professional while also creating a comfortable environment in which I feel I can be open and honest.

I love love love Katie. Talking to Katie is like catching up with an old friend, and I don't feel judged, intimidated, or shamed with Katie. She really listens to me, gives me the tools I need to improve and I love how she asks brain storming questions and look within myself. I'm so happy I finally found a therapist I can connect to and be myself with.

She’s a great therapist. Understands my situation and gave me great expertise to solve a lot of the problems I’ve been having.

I only got to do counseling with Katie for a short time, but she was so so wonderful! She listened, validated, offered solutions and suggestions, really worked through the things WITH me, and was overall kind and caring. I never knew text therapy could be so effective and useful! I highly, HIGHLY recommend Katie!!!

Katie is like the big sister I’ve always wanted and needed. She supports me and cheers me on, but she’s also honest in a caring way. I truly feel heard and like she has my best interest at heart. She wants me to succeed and improve my relationship with my family as well as myself.

Reviewed May 2021

I have really benefited from working with Katie. She is easy to talk to and she has some helpful strategies that have helped me. I appreciate that she reaches out via texting to check in between video sessions even though texts aren’t really my thing. It makes me feel like she cares.

Katherine (Katie) Strub is phenomenal! Therapy is somewhere that you want to feel comfortable opening up, have someone listening to you, have that encouragement, but also that advice. Katie does that and more! She read my bio and responded and when I read her response I knew she was going to be great. Ever since our first session I have been WOW-ed. Katie has been extremely responsive to messages, journal entries and video calls. Thank you Katie!

Reviewed February 2021

Amazingly easy to chat with. Gives me the ear AND the responses to get me thinking about why I do things or what may trigger my reactions.

Reviewed February 2021

Great listener and great advice still pretty early but off to a great start.

Reviewed February 2021

Katie is so understanding so far in this journey with me. She listens, isn't a "stick in the mud" and is able to make jokes when appropriate. I feel like I have gained more from this journey so far than the past two times I have attempted therapy.
