Hello,
Welcome to Better to Help and thank you for viewing my page. My name is Dr. Monique Lilakos. I have a doctorate in social work and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I have been providing therapy for a wide range of issues and populations for over 20 years. I graduated from Fordham University in New York in 1999 with my masters degree and Rutgers University in 1997 with my Bachelors Degree. I have worked with individuals, adults, adolescents, families, military personnel and caregivers. My specialties include trauma, caregiver and grandparent caregiver support, grief and loss, depression, anxiety, working with adolescents, spiritual counseling and gender dysphoria.
I am a client centered, goal oriented therapist who desires to help you. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)and Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). These modalities are hands-on, practical approaches to problem-solving. CBT treatment involves efforts to change thinking patterns and or behaviors. SFBT focuses on behavioral changes that clients desire to achieve in a short term goal focused manner. DBT focuses on being mindful and present in your healing process. These therapeutic methods help people identify faulty or unhelpful ways of thinking and learn better ways of coping with life's stressors. They are designed to help you heal, feel empowered and manage life one day at a time.
I understand that difficult and painful times are part of the human experience, and seeking help may be challenging. Exploring the healing process or enriching one’s personal growth, requires establishing a trusting and an emotional supportive relationship. Change is not easy, but it is possible. I am here to help.
About online counseling
Online counseling allows you to receive care from an online mental health practitioner via phone, video chat, or instant messaging. It is convenient for those who may have trouble getting to or would prefer not to have in-person therapy appointments. Ranging from $60 to $90 per week, online counseling is generally more affordable than in-person counseling. A study by researchers at University of California, Berkeley found that online counseling can be just as effective as face-to-face therapy while being more convenient, affordable, and accessible.
