Sometimes it feels counter to our instincts to reach out during a difficult time. It can be easier in the short term to curl up within ourselves, but this prolongs suffering. Reaching out and being open can feel uncomfortably vulnerable, but paradoxically there is huge strength in this vulnerability. I have been fortunate to have over 14 years of experience working with individuals who have taken the chance to reach out. I have worked with adults, children, adolescents, and families, both in inpatient and outpatient settings. I have extensive clinical experience treating individuals with depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, PTSD, developmental trauma, suicidal thoughts, borderline personality disorder, eating disorders, adjustment disorders, NSSI, grief and loss. I find that diagnoses are a convenient way to discuss clusters of symptoms, but that they do not give a wholistic picture of a person. I use a person-centered approach, meeting individuals where they are, not where a diagnosis says they are. I strive to help individuals not just find the absence of difficult symptoms, but a life that is joyful, mindful, and connected to others.
Study after study shows that the relationship in therapy is what leads to change, rather than the specific therapeutic models. My therapeutic interactions are genuine, empathic and nonjudgmental. I use a solution-focused, strength based, trauma informed approach that draws from Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Psychodynamic Theory. I obtained my Masters in Social Work from Smith College, and have certifications in treating NSSI and Traumatic Stress. I also provide supervision for other therapists in my field .
Outside my work as a therapist, I love spending time with my family and pets, being outdoors, practicing Pilates, and getting messy with ceramics.
About online counseling
Online counseling allows you to receive care from an online mental health practitioner via phone, video chat, or instant messaging. It is convenient for those who may have trouble getting to or would prefer not to have in-person therapy appointments. Ranging from $35 to $80 per week, online counseling is generally more affordable than in-person counseling. A study by researchers at University of California, Berkeley found that online counseling can be just as effective as face-to-face therapy while being more convenient, affordable, and accessible.
