More about me
Years in Practice: 7
Dr. Cynthia Minto is a Richmond-based licensed professional counselor with more than 20- years of experience working with individuals and families in community mental health settings and the military. As a proud military retiree, Dr. Minto has a passion for military members and understands their unique culture and stressors. Dr. Minto has worked extensively with individuals with developmental disabilities and physical disabilities. She is passionate about helping people work through challenging life issues that have been impacted by trauma, marginalization, and lack of autonomy. She has experience with depression, Bipolar, PTSD, anxiety, attachment issues, chronic stress and ADHD. Dr. Minto has been trained extensively in Somatic Experiencing (SE), which is a trauma modality that supports the gentle release of bound trauma in the nervous system. Through body-body based interventions, Dr. Minto is able to support and release nervous system patterning to assist in resolving symptoms of trauma. SE is effective for the treatment of chronic stress and pain, anxiety, hypervigilance, depression, ADHD, early attachment problems, and body awareness. Dr. Minto is also skilled with using bottom-up regulation strategies through the use of expressive arts and play to assist with issues that are more prone to be relieved through right brain processes, versus traditional cognitive models of therapy. Dr. Minto works with a sincere belief that therapy is a guide to be used to help the individual reach the answers to their own healing and she experiences much satisfaction in partnering in the journey toward that healing and self-discovery.
About online counseling
Online counseling allows you to receive care from an online mental health practitioner via phone, video chat, or instant messaging. It is convenient for those who may have trouble getting to or would prefer not to have in-person therapy appointments. Ranging from $35 to $80 per week, online counseling is generally more affordable than in-person counseling. A study by researchers at University of California, Berkeley found that online counseling can be just as effective as face-to-face therapy while being more convenient, affordable, and accessible.
