More about me
Years in Practice: 7
My name is Francesca (Fran) Roberson, a Clinical Psychologist licensed in the State of California (PSY28149). I earned a Masters (MA) and Doctorate (PsyD) in Clinical Psychology at the Argosy University, San Francisco/Bay Area Campus. I have worked in an outpatient setting, partial hospitalization setting, prison setting, and nursing home setting and with this experience, I have learned much about the differences between people, cultures, and their presenting issues, but have also learned that despite our differences, as humans, we often face similar plights and difficulties which can be worked out with therapy services.
Overall, I find that the relationship between the therapist and client is one of the most important aspects leading to treatment efficacy. I make an effort to be non-judgmental and to meet you where you feel most comfortable. I utilize humor and an interactive style to build rapport and facilitate a level of comfort while getting to know you. Trusting that you know yourself and your needs best, I encourage you to set your own goals while helping you visualize the changes that you would like to make in your life. My services are meant to support you on this journey to actualizing these goals.
There are many ways to meet these goals, and in the many different settings that I have worked in, I have experience utilizing many different approaches and techniques depending on the setting, presenting problem, and client demographics. In the community mental health setting I utilized person-first and humanistic approaches with occasional need for cognitive behavioral or behavioral approaches to address certain symptoms. In my other jobs, I was encouraged to use CBT, behavioral techniques, evidence-based practices, short term/time limited treatment, crisis management techniques, strength-based, and supportive therapy.
Personally, I live a quiet and peaceful life with my husband and new baby son. We enjoy family dinners and game nights with extended family and friends and traveling whenever we can.
I like to think of coping as a tool belt with several different tools needed to deal with different situations. The more tools you have to draw from, the better able you will be to address an issue as it arises, but it is also important that you know how and when to use these tools so that they can be the most helpful. Sometimes a tool can be a coping skill, but sometimes it can also be learning a new way to view a situation which makes it seem less scary or daunting. This new perspective can be just the thing to give you the strength you need to attack the problem.
I look forward to meeting you and finding the best “tools” and ways to help you improve your overall quality of life!
About online counseling
Online counseling allows you to receive care from an online mental health practitioner via phone, video chat, or instant messaging. It is convenient for those who may have trouble getting to or would prefer not to have in-person therapy appointments. Ranging from $60 to $90 per week, online counseling is generally more affordable than in-person counseling. A study by researchers at University of California, Berkeley found that online counseling can be just as effective as face-to-face therapy while being more convenient, affordable, and accessible.
