More about me
Licensing: MA, LMFT Years in Practice: 7 State: California
Hello! I'm Darcy, and I'm passionate about working with individuals living with the effects of trauma, depression, anxiety and other behavioral health issues. I believe talk therapy is a great resource and I'm looking forward to helping you find practical solutions to life issues, be a sounding board and build confidence to live effectively.
I've been a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in California since 2016 but I have been providing counseling services since 2011 to children, families, couples and individuals. I completed my Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology with a specialization in trauma treatment at Antioch University Los Angeles in 2014 following a six-year career in journalism. I transitioned to the mental healthcare field in order to assist others in developing their personal stories and gaining insight into their behavior. I've worked for County-sponsored mental health programs, inpatient addiction treatment centers, community-based outpatient mental health programs and most recently with active duty military on installations.
My counseling style is best described as Rogerian (unconditional positive regard) combined with brief, solution focused therapy that meets the person where they are. I like for the client to give me his/her/their perspective of the issue and then I work with the client using his/her/their language to devise workable, practical solutions while honoring them as a human being. I am very experienced in Motivational Interviewing (MI) techniques and interventions such as the miracle question, scaling and CBT.
About online counseling
Online counseling allows you to receive care from an online mental health practitioner via phone, video chat, or instant messaging. It is convenient for those who may have trouble getting to or would prefer not to have in-person therapy appointments. Starting at $65 per week, online counseling is generally more affordable than in-person counseling. A study by researchers at University of California, Berkeley found that online counseling can be just as effective as face-to-face therapy while being more convenient, affordable, and accessible.
