Britany is amazing. She fits my therapy needs perfectly and I really appreciate how she gives her input in perfect moderation. She helps me work through things in a goal oriented kind of way. I can't recommend her enough. I only wish I had more time with her!

Hello!
My name is Britany Alva and I‘m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and I have been working in the counseling field since 2012. I have experienced working in non-profit community outpatient and private practice settings with clients experiencing depression, anxiety, relationship issues, parenting, teen concerns, and a wide range of challenges including grief/loss, insomnia, addiction, trauma, abuse, PTSD, OCD, bipolar, personal growth, and crisis and adjustment issues.
I believe that our ability to develop a therapeutic relationship is a key catalyst in the change process. While I’m able to empathize and understand the experiences you are presenting with, your buy in and openness to the process are key in the change you may see. I’m here to assist you through this change process and to address the goals you may have while working through the struggles you are presenting with.
While I tend to follow trauma focused models of therapy, I do believe not everything works for everyone. Other models of therapy I draw from includes person-centered approach when in a therapeutic relationship with my clients. This means that I make consistent efforts to meet each client "where they are." With that being said, as I get to know you and vice versa, we will work together to move towards processing through the problems you have presented with and the goals we will set.
In my work with clients, I use some of the leading psychological modalities, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Solution-Focused Therapy. I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), which is a trauma focused modality aimed at reducing the distress one associates to events and memories that maybe triggered in the present.
Having a personal and educational understanding of the impact mental illness and all that accompanies it, has been a valuable tool in my ability to meet others where they are at and be a part of their journey to a more whole life. Specifically, my passion lies with those who have experienced trauma. While I have extensive experience with military servicemen and their families I have a calling and experience for anyone whether they be a child, adolescent, or adult suffering with the repercussions that experienced trauma has on them and the ones they love.
My Educational Credentials Include:
- Argosy University Masters of Arts in Clinical Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy
- Licensed by State of California Board of Behavioral Science
- Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing Therapy Trained (EMDR Insititute)
I look forward to working with you!
About online counseling
Online counseling allows you to receive care from an online mental health practitioner via phone, video chat, or instant messaging. It is convenient for those who may have trouble getting to or would prefer not to have in-person therapy appointments. Ranging from $60 to $90 per week, online counseling is generally more affordable than in-person counseling. A study by researchers at University of California, Berkeley found that online counseling can be just as effective as face-to-face therapy while being more convenient, affordable, and accessible.
