Hello! My name is Kara Ranes. I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with the Board of Behavioral Sciences. I received my Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pepperdine University in 2009. I have over a decade of experience in psychotherapy and have worked with individuals of all ages, couples, and families. I use a multidisciplinary approach to therapy, combining elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution-Focused therapy to help clients gain self-awareness regarding maladaptive thought processes that impact emotional and behavioral functioning and prevent clients from achieving their goals. My primary focus is to provide you a safe and contained space in which complex personal issues can be explored, more fully understood, and better managed.
I have extensive experience treating a variety of mental health issues, including anxiety, mood, and psychotic disorders, ADHD, addiction, and dual-diagnosis. I specialize in treatment of depression, anxiety, and addiction. I am currently in the process of becoming certified in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), a therapeutic model designed to treat trauma. I understand the importance of a strong therapeutic relationship, as research indicates it is the biggest predictor of success in therapy. My genuine and empathic nature allows me to connect with different personality types and tailor my therapeutic approach to you, based on your specific treatment needs.
About online counseling
Online counseling allows you to receive care from an online mental health practitioner via phone, video chat, or instant messaging. It is convenient for those who may have trouble getting to or would prefer not to have in-person therapy appointments. Ranging from $60 to $90 per week, online counseling is generally more affordable than in-person counseling. A study by researchers at University of California, Berkeley found that online counseling can be just as effective as face-to-face therapy while being more convenient, affordable, and accessible.
