I have had three other therapists before meeting with Shawna and thought therapy may not be for me. It was never really all that helpful and made me feel a bit dismissed. But Shawna actually pinpoints problems I’m having and gives advice on how to cope. Her view of “therapy as a mirror” has helped me in so many ways. From building boundaries and setting goals to ending relationships in a healthy way, I have learned so much from her and my life has been better because of her. Thank you, Shawna!

More about me
Licensing: M.Ed, LPC, CPCS Years in Practice: 6 State: Georgia
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Georgia who has been in the mental health field for over 8 years. I graduated from The University of Georgia (Go DAWGS!) where I double majored in Human Development and Family Science and Psychology. I continued my training at UGA and obtained my Master’s of Education in Counseling Psychology. I have experience in working with adolescents and adults who struggle with anxiety, low self-esteem, depression, addiction, and family issues.
I do not see myself as an “advice giver” like we often see in the movies. I do not have all the answers to everyone’s problems, but I do believe that we all have the answers to our problems inside of ourselves somewhere. I believe therapy is similar to holding a mirror up to yourself - its an opportunity to see who you really are. I see myself as a conduit for helping people learn more about themselves and discovering their next steps to move forward in life. I see my main responsibilities as a counselor as being open, honest, ethical, and asking meaningful questions. I believe that clients must also be open, honest, and willing to put in some work and self-reflection in order to get results from counseling. I use a person-centered style and throw in some Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as well.
About online counseling
Online counseling allows you to receive care from an online mental health practitioner via phone, video chat, or instant messaging. It is convenient for those who may have trouble getting to or would prefer not to have in-person therapy appointments. Ranging from $60 to $90 per week, online counseling is generally more affordable than in-person counseling. A study by researchers at University of California, Berkeley found that online counseling can be just as effective as face-to-face therapy while being more convenient, affordable, and accessible.
