I am a clinical social worker that has worked with elders, adults, teenagers, and families licensed in Illinois with over 16 years of experience working as a counselor in clinical environments. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, bipolar, and other mental health disorders. The majority of my career has been focused on working with extremely vulnerable communities, and I work from a trauma informed framework in my client interactions. I believe in using a harm reduction model.
As a therapist, I don't view my role as being someone who sets goals for you and tells you what to do, I believe therapy is a collaborative process and it's my responsibility to meet a client where they are and to help them set appropriate, beneficial goals for themselves. As a harm reduction therapist, I don't believe that any activity that someone wants to engage in is inherently wrong -- more so that there might be negative results of engaging a certain way. In addition to mental health disorders and LGBTQ issues, I also specialize in self harm, substance use management, end of life care, chronic pain, and grief.
I'm grateful to betterhelp for giving a therapeutic resource to people that may otherwise not have an outlet, and I applaud individuals that are currently looking to make changes they need in their lives. It takes a lot of strength and courage to critically think about what you need. I look forward to helping empower you to live your best life!
About online counseling
Online counseling allows you to receive care from an online mental health practitioner via phone, video chat, or instant messaging. It is convenient for those who may have trouble getting to or would prefer not to have in-person therapy appointments. Ranging from $60 to $90 per week, online counseling is generally more affordable than in-person counseling. A study by researchers at University of California, Berkeley found that online counseling can be just as effective as face-to-face therapy while being more convenient, affordable, and accessible.
