More about me

Licensing: LCSW
Years in Practice: 16
State: IL

I am a clinical social worker that has worked with elders, adults, teenagers, and families licensed in Illinois with over 16 years of experience working as a counselor in clinical environments. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, bipolar, and other mental health disorders. The majority of my career has been focused on working with extremely vulnerable communities, and I work from a trauma informed framework in my client interactions. I believe in using a harm reduction model.

As a therapist, I don't view my role as being someone who sets goals for you and tells you what to do, I believe therapy is a collaborative process and it's my responsibility to meet a client where they are and to help them set appropriate, beneficial goals for themselves. As a harm reduction therapist, I don't believe that any activity that someone wants to engage in is inherently wrong -- more so that there might be negative results of engaging a certain way. In addition to mental health disorders and LGBTQ issues, I also specialize in self harm, substance use management, end of life care, chronic pain, and grief.

I'm grateful to betterhelp for giving a therapeutic resource to people that may otherwise not have an outlet, and I applaud individuals that are currently looking to make changes they need in their lives. It takes a lot of strength and courage to critically think about what you need. I look forward to helping empower you to live your best life!

About online counseling

Online counseling allows you to receive care from an online mental health practitioner via phone, video chat, or instant messaging. It is convenient for those who may have trouble getting to or would prefer not to have in-person therapy appointments. Ranging from $60 to $90 per week, online counseling is generally more affordable than in-person counseling. A study by researchers at University of California, Berkeley found that online counseling can be just as effective as face-to-face therapy while being more convenient, affordable, and accessible.

Overall

Kimber has been so understanding and gives me room to voice and work through problems at my own pace, not once did I feel pressured to share anything I didn't want to.

Overall

She always responds to everything I'm worried about, and makes me really think about how to help myself.

Overall

I would have never thought remote therapy would work but it has been only 2 weeks since I started and I think Kimber is truly a genius. She doesn’t advise but merely asks the right questions for you to figure out the issues. I so look forward to our communication everyday. She listens with her whole heart and validates when needed and this has made me feel motivated in seeing myself from a different perspective. Absolutely adore her.

Overall

I know that Kimber’s job is to listen and respond and give advice, but I don’t feel like I’m getting canned responses or anything less than complete my genuine care. She reaches out to me. She is patient. She makes me feel like my reaching out is a good thing, and not a burden to her. She doesn’t make me feel stupid or dramatic at all,

Kimber opens her heart for her clients to embrace their own souls and get though those tough situations we signed up for BetterHelp in the first place.

From the very beginning I had a good gut feeling about Kimber, thankfully I was right! This has been my first time in therapy and I’m happy to reflect on it as a positive experience. We’ve touched on a wide range of issues together from work related struggles, to family matters, to old traumas, to small troubles, as well as the deep bigger picture stuff. Kimber cares and it shows. In our sessions I feel heard and understood… All I can say is that it’s a rare gift. I believe that the insights I’ve gained from our time together will be valuable long into the future. That’s why I plan to continue with Kimber on my path of healing & growth.

Whenever I'm wrestling with anxiety, self-criticism, or just plain sadness, it's such a relief to be able to tag in Kimber. She provides the caring, thoughtful, and objective support I need to process the day-to-day, as well as more major stressors. It helps just to know she's got my back if I need her.
