Donya is kind and attentive. She also replies in a timely manner which helps to keep the emotions in check. She understands without judgement no matter how trivial the issue. She asks when she is unsure, and makes me feel like I am being heard. She gives realistic methods to apply and great suggestions worthy to try. Trust, empathy and respect are important for a fruitful therapy and she checks them all for me. I always look forward to my sessions with Donya!

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia with over 15 years experience working as a mental health professional in a variety of settings. I have had the privilege to work with people from all walks of life on a wide variety of concerns including depression, anxiety, life transitions, substance use, relationships and communication, and many others. I have experience working in community mental health agencies, residential facilities and hospitals. In addition, I am a long time military spouse and mother of two teenagers. I have found that my vast experience in work and life has afforded me a rich understanding of life's many joys and challenges.
My counseling style is warm, engaging and empathic. I strive to provide a safe and supportive atmosphere for my clients and view the relationship as a collaboration - each client is the expert on their own life, and I assist with offering fresh perspectives for understanding and resolving issues. I draw from a variety of approaches in my work and tailor treatment as appropriate to best serve each individual's needs and goals. Some of my favored approaches include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I am also particularly interested in mind/body techniques and methods of "re-wiring" the brain to help with depression and anxiety.
About online counseling
Online counseling allows you to receive care from an online mental health practitioner via phone, video chat, or instant messaging. It is convenient for those who may have trouble getting to or would prefer not to have in-person therapy appointments. Ranging from $60 to $90 per week, online counseling is generally more affordable than in-person counseling. A study by researchers at University of California, Berkeley found that online counseling can be just as effective as face-to-face therapy while being more convenient, affordable, and accessible.
