I want to begin by saying congrats on taking the step to sign up or just look at therapist options with BetterHelp. It does take courage and commitment to recognize things you are struggling with, and you should be proud of yourself for taking this step (even if you feel like you have nothing to be proud of yet).
My name is Sarah Martin, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in California with over five years of experience working as a social worker and therapist. I have worked with people of all different ages and from a variety of different cultural, ethnic, sexual, and religious backgrounds. A large part of my work has been with individuals and families who have experienced trauma; I believe that acknowledging and starting to understand how trauma affects us is a foundation for our sense of self, as well as a stepping stone toward change. Additional areas of experience include anxiety/stress, depression, mood disorders, and coping with change.
Whatever you may be struggling with, my primary goal is for you to feel safe, heard, and empowered. Sometimes therapy can be exciting and enlightening, and sometimes it can be hard and feel like work, but in both cases it works best when you feel comfortable and safe. I look forward to working with you!
About online counseling
Online counseling allows you to receive care from an online mental health practitioner via phone, video chat, or instant messaging. It is convenient for those who may have trouble getting to or would prefer not to have in-person therapy appointments. Ranging from $60 to $90 per week, online counseling is generally more affordable than in-person counseling. A study by researchers at University of California, Berkeley found that online counseling can be just as effective as face-to-face therapy while being more convenient, affordable, and accessible.
