Hello and welcome to my profile! My name is Megan Vega and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Virginia. I am originally from the great state of Wisconsin, however, family military commitments necessitated a move to Virginia. I received my graduate education at Old Dominion University, where I earned my Master's of Science in Education degree with a focus in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I have been providing therapy services for nearly six years, primarily in the acute care setting, working alongside teenagers and young adults at the height of their vulnerability. I also have experience working with the chronically mentally ill population.
I have experience working with a broad range of clinical issues, however, my specialties include depression, anxiety, self-injurious behaviors, relationship issues, self-esteem, anger management, coping skills, and trauma. I also have extensive experience working with the parent-teenager relationship. I am a United States Navy veteran and an active-duty military spouse, so I have an understanding of the unique set of challenges military families face.
My theoretical approach pulls from several modalities, however, I use a strengths-based, person-centered, existential approach. I also have extensive experience using Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy. My style is warm and encouraging, however, I believe in the power of challenging and confronting when necessary. I often use a holistic approach to therapy, emphasizing the importance of attending to our mental, physical, and spiritual needs. I enjoy problem-solving with my clients and brainstorming unique, non-traditional approaches to improve your quality of life.
I check my messages Monday through Saturday and I typically respond within 24 hours.
About online counseling
Online counseling allows you to receive care from an online mental health practitioner via phone, video chat, or instant messaging. It is convenient for those who may have trouble getting to or would prefer not to have in-person therapy appointments. Ranging from $35 to $80 per week, online counseling is generally more affordable than in-person counseling. A study by researchers at University of California, Berkeley found that online counseling can be just as effective as face-to-face therapy while being more convenient, affordable, and accessible.
