She listens without judgment, asks the right questions, and consistently provides thoughtful, meaningful perspective that helps you see things more clearly. She has an incredible ability to balance empathy with honesty—delivering tough truths when needed, but always with kindness and respect. Her support feels personal, authentic, and grounded, and she creates an environment where you feel safe, heard, and understood. Her calm presence, emotional intelligence, and ability to immediately identify the heart of an issue make her stand out in her field. She doesn’t just treat symptoms; she helps you understand the deeper layers, the patterns, and the path forward. Hello! I applaud your decision to view my page. This first step may have been difficult for you, and it signals that you want resolution of an issue. Together we will work to alleviate pain/suffering so that you can have a full, rich, meaningful life.
I work with individuals of all ages and backgrounds to repair trust, improve communication, and strengthen emotional intimacy. It takes courage to seek out a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. I am here to support & empower you in that journey.
I have a clinical doctoral degree (DSW) from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville as a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Alabama and an undergraduate degree in social work, sociology (minor-Psychology) earned at Huntingdon College. I love helping people!
As a clinical social worker, I meet people during times of duress—often the worst day of their life. I have a non-judgmental attitude regarding the issues that one has when seeking my help. As we work toward healing, I can promise that I will NOT dismiss the pain you are experiencing or make light of your situation. It is imperative that I not only HEAR you but UNDERSTAND you and this requires open communication and trust (both of us).
I have more than 30 years’ experience working with individuals and families with a variety of health/mental health concerns and life/career changes. I have mentored colleagues and provided supervision for them as well.
With multiple years of experience in health care (hospitals, nursing homes, home health, hospice and academica ) I have also developed a passion for working with older adults and their families. Caregivers experience types of stress and often need concrete assistance. However, I treat adults of all ages especially those with anxiety, depression, life changes, pre-retirement concerns, etc. Additionally, I enjoy assisting college students master concerns about class assignments, issues with professors, and so forth.
My approach is client centered and I use a range of treatment options: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, CBT, Mindfulness, Problem Solving Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Rogerian, Gestalt and others.
The best client for me is one who is MOTIVATED to make changes and do the work necessary to make those changes. That means keeping appointments and completing assignments when given.
I look forward to working with you to accomplish your goals! The next step is committing to therapy.
Wishing you all the best life has to offer.
Sincerely,
Dr. Carolyn Neiswender, DSW, LICSW, PIP

Online counseling, sometimes called teletherapy, refers to talk therapy delivered remotely through digital platforms, such as video calls, phone calls, or chat. It can be a great option for people who face barriers to traditional face-to-face therapy, such as those living in remote areas, individuals with mobility issues, or people with busy schedules that make it difficult to attend in-person sessions.
Teletherapy also offers greater convenience and flexibility, allowing clients to access care from the comfort of their homes. Research shows that the treatment outcomes with online counseling are often just as effective as with traditional therapy, providing a viable alternative for individuals seeking mental health support.

Dr. N is absolutely phenomenal. I feel she provides me with incredibly applicable insight and I feel she has a genuine interest in my life as we talk. She is detail focused and she offers valuable resources that aide in the therapy process. I'd absolutely suggest anyone looking to make improvements in their therapy goals book an appointment with her.
We work very well together & I feel supported & encouraged. We’re both putting a lot of work into my therapy.
My therapist is so understanding and helpful from the very first visit I felt so connected with her and encouraged that I know I am on my way to a better life!
I am a huge therapy ding-dong-ditcher, so I usually get nowhere. Except with Dr. Neiswender. With Dr. Neiswender I was able to get so many resources and made it to the most sessions within a timeframe. Regardless of my inability to stay with therapy for long periods of time, I feel enormously touched by her unwavering empathy, wise heart and unlimited kindness. Thank you Dr. Neiswender. This world is a better place with you in it.
