Matthew is a great therapist. I have seen him for three appointments now and he is so considerate and supportive. From the first few minutes we talked, he could already remember the names of friends and others and it just added that personal touch of care that can be rare. Highly recommend!

Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, and now living in Maryland, I bring over a decade of experience supporting the development of more fulfilling relationships. I am driven by a lifelong passion for the work of psychotherapy and the enduring belief that we as humans have a natural tendency toward psychological growth & healing.
After completing a master's degree in Counseling Psychology at The Wright Institute in 2011, my work focused for six years on serving low-income families navigating a range of issues such as homelessness, active domestic violence, substance dependence, child welfare involvement, community gun violence, complex childhood trauma, teen pregnancy, and chronic homelessness. While helping parents to connect with crucial community resources, I supported them and their children with developing more fulfilling relationships, more secure attachments, and more effective strategies for coping with stress.
Having served clients in a number of more high-paced environments, my BetterHelp practice is focused on integrating techniques from Humanistic and Existential Psychotherapy, Narrative Therapy, Mindfulness approaches, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and more, to develop an individualized plan for treating the whole person.
The breadth and depth of my clinical experience is reflected in my clinical flexibility and capacity for weaving these interventions together within the context of a secure therapeutic working relationship. My belief is that the science of psychotherapy must be balanced with an artful dance in which the therapist is tasked with empathically “looking out the patient’s window” while also guiding them toward authentic and sustainable growth.
About online counseling
Online counseling allows you to receive care from an online mental health practitioner via phone, video chat, or instant messaging. It is convenient for those who may have trouble getting to or would prefer not to have in-person therapy appointments. Ranging from $60 to $90 per week, online counseling is generally more affordable than in-person counseling. A study by researchers at University of California, Berkeley found that online counseling can be just as effective as face-to-face therapy while being more convenient, affordable, and accessible.
