  • LCSW

I am licensed in Wyoming with 28 years of professional work experience. I have experience in helping clients with stress and anxiety, coping with addictions, trauma and abuse, & coping with grief and loss. I also work with mood disorders. I work with my clients to create an open and safe environment where thoughts and feelings can be shared without fear of judgment. Taking the first step to sign up for therapy can take courage and I am proud of you for getting started! Therapy is all about you and what you need. The greatest gift of helping people is to offer different views on a subject. It is not unlike a river guide taking one down a river. Guide can converse the rapids in a safe manner until you have the tools to do the same. My many different experiences in life from being a blue-collar worker to a white collar, to a professional, experiencing poverty to success has given me the ability to be able to share the many lessons to help you have each day a new beginning for your life journey. Following is my professional journey.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I graduated from the University of Wyoming with a Bachelor of Social Work degree in 1993 and obtained my Master of Social Work degree from New Mexico Highlands University. I returned to Wyoming and secured a position as a Master School Social Worker for Sweetwater School District #2 in Green River Wyoming providing services to children receiving Special Education Services, Severely and Emotionally Disturbed children and provided prevention services to the regular classroom students along with in-services for district personnel. I also worked at Southwest Counseling Center in Rock Springs, Wyoming working with their Criminal Justice Intensive Outpatient Substance Abuse program. In 2001 I relocated to Northern Wyoming and began employment with Big Horn Basin Counseling Services, beginning an Intensive Outpatient Substance Abuse Program that continues to provide quality treatment for addictions. In 2011 I began employment with Positive Progressions in Powell Wyoming. There I continued to provide services for dually diagnosed individuals, play therapy, families, couples, and individuals. I also worked with the DD population. I have been trained in EMDR and provides services to trauma-based individuals. I also have experience with CBT, DBT, ACT, mindfulness and IFS modes of therapy. I have worked at other mental health agencies continuing my own personal and professional growth. I look forward to beginning a therapeutic relationship with you.

Sincerely,

Marlynn A. Riker M.S.W, L.C.S.W.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.
