I am dealing with a lot of complexity in my life right now. I lost my mother to Alzheimer’s a year ago. My father is aging and can do less and his memory is getting affected. I am living with my father and caring for him. I have a daughter with a lot of emotional health issues. I am a doctor still working three days a week on a demanding schedule as I try to transition to retirement. I am trying to find a balance with all these things going on in my life. Bernadette actually has had some good insights into what that looks like and what is reasonable as I try to figure out how to set boundaries and forge my continuing life into a life that is satisfying to me. She actually understands what the demands are on me as the mother of my child, as a daughter coping with care of aging parents and as a doctor trying to provide good care in a stressful environment. I am still a work in progress, but working with Bernadette, I have more belief I will eventually be able to sort it all out.
